Dallin is now eight weeks old, and boy, has he grown! He is 14 lb and eats 6 oz of formula at a time. We’ve just started putting a bit of rice into his formula before bedtime, and it seems to help him sleep longer. He doesn’t go to bed very willingly, though. We think that when he gets a bit older, he will be the kind of kid that forces himself to stay awake. That will be fun!

He is smiling more, usually just from his gas, but we like to think that he’s happy to see us. He has started cooing, which is adorable. This evening, he figured out how to suck his thumb.

You can’t tell from the photgraphs of Dallin, but his eyes are grayish-blue. We aren’t sure whether it’s permanent. Also, we’ve decided that he has Allison’s lips.

We are thoroughly enjoying Dallin as he is now, but we are excited to see what changes the future will bring.

Speaking of changes, Lionel is moving to Moscow (in Idaho, not Russia) on the 14th. He will be attending the University of Idaho to pursue a Masters degree in civil engineering. Sadly, Allison and Dallin will be staying in Boise until mid-September. Allison has returned to managing a Blimpie restaurant and will be training her replacement. It will be really hard for us to be separated, but at least the time that we are apart will ease the pain for Allison when the time comes to leave her family and friends in Boise behind.

He has arrived! Friday, June 12, 2009

Dallin Christian Starchman was born at 4:17 AM on June 12, 2009. He weighed 7 lb, 3 oz and was 20.5 inches long. He is in the NICU because his blood sugar was low, and hopefully he will be able to leave in about four days.

Allison did well during the delivery. She got an epidural and only had to push for three hours. She will probably need to stay in the hospital for another couple of days, but she is doing well.

Dallin has my nose and lips and Allison’s red hair. I will post some pictures soon.

It’s getting closer!! Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I am so excited how close Lionel and I are to having this baby. Last week, we went to the doctor and I was 1-2 cm dilated, which is really nice since I am not due until the end of June. Then we went to the doctor this week and I was 3 cm dilated. While we were there, the doctor scraped my membranes. He said the baby is already the size of a 40 week old so if I had him now he would be a good size. Today I think I lost my mucus plug, which brings us that much closer to having this baby soon. I can’t wait! I can’t wait to be able to bend over again and walk a bit faster. Wish us luck and I will keep you updated on what is going on.

Five more weeks! Thursday, May 28, 2009

Filed under: Pregnancy — Lionel & Allison @ 5:30 am

I can’t believe I only have five more weeks to go! I get to start my maternity leave in 4 weeks, which I am really excited about. That is only if he doesn’t come early. I have been pretty swollen in my feet, hands and legs. It’s pretty uncomfortable, especially when I can’t even close my hands into a fist. I have actually put on some weight. I think now I have gained 11 pounds since I first became pregnant, which is really good. I am hoping that this helps me lose weight easier after I have the baby. It is crazy to look down and just see belly. When he moves around I can see big bulges in my stomach where he pushes against my belly, he is very strong. I go see the doctor on Tuesday and find out if I am dilated at all. I am kind of hoping that I am, then it means that things are moving along. Lionel and I are pretty excited, it’s time to meet the little guy.

Only 14 more weeks to go! Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Filed under: Pregnancy — Lionel & Allison @ 9:54 pm

It has been a very interesting but pleasant past four weeks for Lionel and me. I haven’t been sick which has been really nice. I don’t have to run to the bathroom after almost every meal and puke it all up. I also don’t get nauseous from the smells at work which is really nice since I spend about nine hours a day there. Luckily I have only gained one pound since we found out I was pregnant. I try not to over-eat but I think what helped was being sick all the time. I am finally starting to show a little bit, but you would only notice if you already knew that I was pregnant, otherwise I just look like I have put on some weight.

I went to the doctor today and was able to listen to his heart beat and the nurse said it sounded nice and strong. My biggest health concern is my legs. I have some varicose veins coming in and have gotten some spider veins. I also have problems with swelling in my legs. I have to start putting my feet up for at least 15 minutes three times a day. They also recommended getting some special socks to help with my circulation. Hopefully I don’t have this problem when I am done being pregnant and some of the veins go away. Since Lionel is on spring break we are going to try and get the nursery/office ready for when Dallin comes. I am getting really excited and nervous at the same time.  There is just too many emotions and hormones running through my body. This reminds me, I have not lost the emotional pregnant woman thing yet. I can just be sitting in my car at a stop light thinking about nothing and start crying, it is the weirdest thing. Only 14 more weeks to go, I can’t believe it!

It’s definitely a boy Friday, February 27, 2009

We went to the doctor for an ultrasound a month ago, but the baby was not cooperating, so we weren’t able to find out what the gender was. We went again this week and now we know: it’s a boy! We shall call him Dallin. He is still a tiny guy — his feet are only about 1.5 inches long.

It’s a boy? Wednesday, December 31, 2008

We went to the doctor yesterday for a baby checkup and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat.  The nurse said she thinks that it’s a boy, based on how fast the heart was beating.  I recorded it, and according to my calculations, the baby’s heart rate was about 146 bpm.  Have a listen:

The squelch at the end was the baby kicking!
